Members of the 5th Cavalry Regiment along with other brigades and re-enactors will convene in Hermann, Missouri on 9/24-25 for a commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. An authentic Civil War wedding will take place at the Hofgarten in the heart of the historic district with guests in full Civil War regalia. The Hermann Living History Farm will feature an encampment with exhibits, music of the era performed in a restored massive barn on the farm property. the Cider House, Wash House, cemetery at the hilltop with an honor guard salute for a Civil War fallen hero, blacksmithing, a gunsmith, historians, sutlers, will all help create an authentic life of the 1860s. The front porch of the era home and the property will all be stage for a variety of Civil War themed events such as lye soap making, Civil War quilt demonstrations and storytelling under the old ginko tree planted by Hermann horticulturist George Husmann. Visitors will meet Captain Charles Manwaring, one of Hermann's Civil War heroes who died on the riverfront when attacked by bushwhackers.
