The Battle of Westport, also called the Gettysburg of the West, was fought on October 23, 1864, and represents one of the largest battles west of the Mississippi River; a turning point in the war and closing chapter to Confederate General Price’s 1864 Missouri raid. 30,000 soldiers were part of the engagement with 3,000 casualties. The Battle was the last major operation Confederate forces launched in the Trans-Mississippi Theater.

The Ray County Historical Society is hosting a Civil War Re-Enactment for the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Albany and the death of Capt. William Anderson. Re-enactors will check in on Friday, which is followed by two days of mock battles, Battle of Albany re-enactment, the funeral of Capt Anderson, a Civil War Ball, the dedication of two Missouri State Civil War Panels and a variety of other events.
