The back of the larvae is black, the belly is yellow-white, and there are black and white rings on both sides. The hands and feet are strong, with sharp claws on the fingers (toes). The side of the tail is flat like a belt, much like a long sword. The scales on the back of the tail are arranged in two rows of low ridges, with a pair of fossae in front of the anus.
